I don't know whether the city councils that defunded their police forces in Big Blue cities over the past few months have given a thought to what might come next, but I certainly have.
Those cities would include Minneapolis, and Seattle, and Portland, and New York City, and Baltimore, and Kansas City, and Chicago, and San Francisco, and Atlanta, and, and, and...
As the recently-released FBI data reflects, the "NICS" (National Instant Criminal System) Federal background checks people must use to be able to purchase firearms has been running at an all time high. Up as much as 200% from a year ago. Ammunition purchases are up more than 250%! Many gun dealers are only seeing customers on an appointment basis! Ammo shelves are almost empty. And the greatest levels of increase in firearm purchases have occurred in historically Liberal-leaning areas of the Country. The shaken citizens of Big Blue Cities in Big Blue counties in Big Blue States have been leading the charge to gun ownership (citizens in other locales perhaps already had one?). So those living in the cities Democrats have deliberately chosen not to protect have in many instances decided to protect themselves.
What other choice do they have? What other choice would YOU have?
Remember back a few months ago when the Democrats were talking openly about firearm confiscation if and when they won? Yeah, well, not so much any more. It's hard to whip up the troops when the troops are on the other team...
And to those recent converts to Individual Rights, we need to add in the more than 100 Million American Gun Owners who already collectively possess more than 440 million firearms. Right now. Today. That we know of. And I'm of the opinion they just might choose to use them.
You know that part of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution that reads, "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state...?" Well, I'm thinking that if this unprecedented level of anarchy America is now facing continues much longer, without even a cursory effort by those Democrats in charge there to stop it, then that militia they were talking about just might just get itself "well-regulated."
Or perhaps not one, but dozens, maybe hundreds of individual citizen militias banded together by Patriots dedicated to protecting their lives and their property and the lives and property of their neighbors. And I would guess all would be "well regulated."
Did you know that cops are hanging up their handcuffs in unprecedented numbers? In record numbers? This flurry of farewells began with the death of George Floyd back in May. Since then 272 police officers have put in their retirement papers in New York City. That's a 49% spike from the retirements of a year ago. Ed Mullins, President of the NYC Sergeants Benevolent Association, said nearly 80 of his 320 members have recently filed for retirement. He said morale there is at the lowest levels he's seen in his 38 years of policing.
Could working for De Blasio spawn any other result?
The same story can be told in Minneapolis, and Seattle, and Baltimore, and Rochester, and so many other "Big Blue" Democrat-led cities across America. The riots and looting and burning caused in these cities by "Antifa" and "Black Lives Matters," all seemingly supported, or at the very least not denounced, by Democrat leadership in those cities, has caused police there to pull back and cease ordinary policing. Cops are afraid. They're just people. With families. They're afraid if they police in the normal format they might get ensnared into a career-ending lawsuit. Thus, traffic isn't being regulated. Violators and speeders aren't being stopped. Suspicious people in suspicious circumstances in suspicious areas are permitted to continue their activities unabated. Community policing is not occurring. Emergency calls to 911 are going unanswered. Cops are preferring rather to sit in their squad cars and avoid both street violence and the likely prospect of them being criminally charged for simply doing their jobs.
Retirement, in other words, cannot come too quickly.
But for us citizens it means anarchy. With no cops to tamp down crime, crime flourishes (nature abhors a vacuum!). And where crime is flourishing, citizens are likely to defend themselves against it. Depending upon your source for news, you're seeing it every day, or not seeing it at all (CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, for example). Citizens arming themselves and protecting their own businesses. And homes. And properties. And lives.
I would expect nothing less.
Democrats are promising us that this level of violence will grow even worse if we're stupid enough to reelect Donald J. Trump. They're telling us this! They're actually saying the "quiet parts" out loud! And I suspect our well-armed citizens just might take issue with that. Perhaps even enough to band together into citizens' militias to protect that which police, and their governors, and their mayors, and their city councils, simply won't.
I suspect this could get much worse before it gets better. It will get worse if Trump is reelected, but then he'll likely institute "The Insurrection Act" to thwart it. That's one level down from martial law. It might even get worse if Biden's elected, just because the "Biden voter" rioters are proving that they really like rioting and looting and burning and hurting people, and the anarchists might take his victory as their E-ticket authorization to riot. We'll just have to wait and see.
But some of us will be awaiting the outcome with a loaded firearm at the ready. And the promise that their friends and neighbors will be waiting with them, ready perhaps for "the shot heard 'round the dumpster."
I'm ready to join them. If they have a spot for a somewhat physically-challenged older coot to help protect America and its citizens, count me in...
BTW, I was, and still am, a champion marksman, so getting up close and personal to those wishing us harm isn't absolutely necessary for me. In fact, not even the same zip code. And in this context, I do not look forward to proving it...
