The Death of Pro Sports...

Why are some professional athletes out there only happy when they make the rest of America unhappy?

When others are looking for a little apolitical fun, a break from the horrific news besetting us every day, it seems a cadre of professional athletes seem to want to cloud up and rain all over us!

The NBA Game 5 viewership was 18.22 million.  This year's Game 5?  5.7 million!  Two-thirds of their TV audience just magically "disappeared."  And game 7 ratings, the game where LeBron and the Lakers clinched the championship, with only 8.26 million viewers, were off 70%!     Or rather, the NBA "disappeared" it via their ridiculous Social Justice Warrior-ism.  "Black Lives Matters" advertisements posted in two foot-high letters all across the court signaled to the rest of us that they embraced blatant and divisive Marxist activism.  Adam Silver, CEO of the NBA, is an idiot.  He must be.  He is paid $Millions a year to protect and grow the NBA.  He just destroyed its PR image and its bank account.

And he should be fired for it.  Wouldn't you think that the CEO of the NBA would look at BLM's website before he chose to kiss its ass?  Wouldn't you think he'd find out that he was using the NBA's resources to endorse an organization dedicated to the downfall of America?

In fact, we've learned through this whole process that the NBA has ceased to be an American institution.  It's now a Chinese institution, with more than half it's viewership and income (more than $500 Million a Year), arising from China.  We learned that when the NBA would not condemn China's ham-handed takeover of Hong Kong.  So maybe we shouldn't be surprised that the NBA no longer supports or identifies with America and its core values.  And maybe the NBA shouldn't be surprised if the American people show it the door and move along with their lives...

And maybe they already have.

And not to be ignored are the results of our current MLB World Series viewership.  Our previously lowest-rated WS Game One was between the Giants and the Royals back in 2014.  12,191 Million loyal fans watched that game.  Our Game One between the Dodgers and the Rays in this year's WS?  9,191!  The Very Lowest In History!  Clearly, there's a Major League backlash against not just baseball, but professional sports in general.

And although I've been among the millions boycotting the NFL lately for its flip-flopping over its athletes kneeling when the National Anthem plays, I've checked in at the beginning of 19 recent games and discovered that they no longer show pre-game festivities.  No more Anthem, no more kneeling.  No more flyovers, no more kneeling.  Perhaps that's the only way they can avoid a fan backlash; let their childish and anti-American athletes kneel, but only when the cameras - and the fans - aren't watching.  (If a tree falls in the forest...).  I assumed Silver's NBA will soon do the same.

There will be a day of reckoning.  There will be a day when efforts to remake America into a Marxist institution by a bunch of overpaid, under-educated athletes whose major skill is "tall" comes back to bite them in the ass.  And when that day comes these people will learn that you simply do not bite the hand that's been feeding you.

Unless, like the NBA, you have another place to hang your hat...

  1. Major skill is "tall." Oy. How do you explain the ratings plummets in golf, hockey, the Kentucky Derby and tennis?
From Sports Business Journal: Ratings for the Stanley Cup Finals were down 61% from last year, averaging 2.1 million viewers.
The final round of the U.S. Open golf tournament had 3.2 million viewers, by far the fewest going back more than 30 years.
The U.S. Open tennis tournament viewership fell sharply on ESPN, down 45% from the year before. The French Open is down 57% so far on NBC.
The Kentucky Derby, which normally gets around 15 million viewers, only had 9.3 million at its rescheduled slot in September.
