The Shot Heard 'Round the World...

The primary reason I keep hearing from those on the far Left for wishing to invalidate the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is that the "keeping and bearing" of firearms it references only applies to militias.

You've heard that too, right?  That the only folks who should have guns, with the possible exception of cops, who many on the Left believe should be disarmed as well (Jeeesh!), are those in a "well-regulated militia."

Well, Pilgrim, having researched this subject in depth, as is my wont, please allow me to put forth all the information you'll need to finally put a dagger in the heart of this baseless excuse for gun-grabbing.  Okay?  Here goes...

It was April 19th, 1776.

General William Gage, King George VI's Commander for the British forces in America at the time, had previously issued orders for the confiscation of all weapons from the Colonists.  The Brits were growing concerned the Colonists might take up arms and rebel against the more egregious laws and rules and taxes they had implemented.

Funny how that happens.

The Colonists were having none of it.  A number of skirmishes occurred in the aftermath of this edict.  Armed skirmishes.  Seven Colonists were killed and more than 200 were wounded during these efforts by the Redcoats to disarm our Colonists.

That heavy-handed, David vs. Goliath-effort only further inflamed the Colonists.  What weapons they had, they hoarded, believing that one day they just might need them.

And April 19, 1776 was just such a day.

General George Washington believed that all Colonists were to be considered a part of America's militia, if and when called upon to serve.  Washington had conceived of a citizen's militia, which he called the "Minutemen."  That meant they were all expected to leave their farms and their businesses and be ready to defend their young country at a minute's notice.  And they were.

In fact, Washington issued a statement to his followers concerning this subject.  It read:

"A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."  (Emphasis mine)

He put out the call for all male Colonists 18 years of age and older to bring their weapons - their own, personal firearms - and meet at the Old Bridge in Concord, Massassasassasachusssettts the morning of that fateful day.  He asked them to bring their own weapons because our Revolutionary Army, being brand new, unfunded and untrained, had no weapons of its own.  And so our very first skirmish in the Revolutionary War, The very famous "Shot Heard 'Round the World" at Concord that day was fought using weapons borrowed from the Colonists who were called upon both to serve, and to employ them as a Minuteman in their mutual defense.

And so, with this experience to guide them, our Founding Fathers chose to write the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, thusly:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Those who have previously failed to fully understand the rationale behind the Amendment, those 27 words, must now recognize that the old "guns belong only in a militia" excuse for gun-grabbing is therefore put to rest, okay?  Okay.

In the meantime, I gotta' go.  There's a gun store in town that's running a special on what Liberal Loons call "assault weapons," and I need to hurry up and get on down there before they're all sold out.  And every time one of these gun-grabbers start bleating out their intention to confiscate them, they sell out faster.  In fact, firearms have more than doubled in number here in America, from roughly 150 million to more than 350 million, since Barack Obama was immaculated.  He was considered the "Greatest Gun Salesman in America" during his time.  And bozos like Robert Francis O'Roarke have now taken up his banner and are keeping those gun store turnstyles turning...

See how influential the Democrats truly are?
