I wonder why we citizens permit those organizations you see on TV to pay off mortgages and build new homes for our "Wounded Warriors?"
Not that I'm against mortgages being paid off in general, you understand, or their mortgages in particular.
I'm using that term "Wounded Warriors" generically, to cover the four or five of these organizations who are in this business. Or, rather mission of love.
This category of free home recipients should include the families of those sworn officers and military veterans who are severely disabled or killed in the line of duty. All of them. We sent them out to do our bidding, often armed, and then they came home in a box. You know who they are. And so far as I know, with the possible exception of the company mentioned above, all of them are reputable, above-board and to be commended.
Deserving of particular note is "Tunnel to Towers" Foundation, which was started by the brother of a fallen firefighter, who died in on 9/11. And they have built hundreds of homes, turn-key paid for, since then.
Think of "Paralyzed Veterans of America." And "Disabled Veterans of America." And of course, "Wounded Warriors." There may well be others. They all ask you (beg you?) for $11.00 a month. Or $19.00 a month. Or some other amount on a subscription basis, so they can take a run at your credit card each and every month. With millions of us subjected to those heart-rending ads, which of course are non-profit, the amounts they collect are staggering. And I ask, WHY?
Why should it befall to us, the willing subscription giving, to pay once again for the care and feeding of our wounded or fallen warriors? We've already paid for it once! In our taxes! Our Government should be stepping up and taking care of the widows and families of those who have died or been severely wounded carrying our torches. And it's frankly a shame that we're not.
Let's you and I start a movement. One designed to get some attention paid to this important issue. If we can sent nearly a $Trillion Dollars to Ukraine, and we have, why can't we build a few homes for our fallen warriors?
* Some of "WW's" executives were caught with their hands in the financial cookie jar a few years back, but they may have cleaned up their act since then.
