The "Druge Report" looks all around the vast space of the Internet each day and then vacuums up stories it considers of interest to its readers.
I, The Chuckmeister, do exactly the same thing. Sort of. I just vacuum up stories I think of interest to you, my fellow Pilgrims, from among those presented by the "Drudges" of the world, and then lay them out for you, one by one. And this is one such story...
There were some 38,300 deaths by firearms* of all types in all of 2019 in America, the most recent year for which such statistics are available. 23,900 of them were by self-inflicted suicides. That leaves about 14,000, from which we must subtract gun deaths between rival gangs, and those resulting from inner-city Black-on-Black crime. That's about 5,500 in total, although some consider the number far higher. Thus, there were about 8,500 actual firearm fatalities in all of 2019.
On the other hand, there were some 38,300 deaths** by automobile in 2019, the most recent year for which such stats are available. 38,300. No reducers, no eliminators, no exceptors, no "but for's." 38,300. We send teenagers out to play in a 4,000 pound weapon and express shock and surprise when the laws of physics messes up their life. Just imagine the kinetic energy released when two 4,000 pound vehicles smack into one other head on at 70 miles per hour! Two 4,000 pound vehicles operating within feet of others, hurtling down America's highways and byways, piloted by the underqualified, just begging to become statistics...
Oh, did I mention that owning and carrying and using firearms is a Fundamental American Right, guaranteed by the Bill of Rights to the Constitution of the United States of America? And driving an automobile is..., how shall I put this..., NOT! Operating an automobile is a privilege granted to those who qualify by various State or local agencies. And that privilege may be revoked or suspended, without notice, by those same agencies. And if you violate the terms of that privilege, you may be fined, or even imprisoned in some cases. A privilege. Granted or revoked on notice. Do you get it people!
NOT A RIGHT!
Do I need say more? I think not.
"Mini-Drudge," out...
